What Is Sirtfood Diet, Is It Reasonable, And What Are These Mysterious Sirtfoods?
You have probably heard of this international diet sensation that many people have now successfully used for weight loss and staying slim, including many celebrities.
This diet promises rapid weight loss while experiencing lasting energy and eating all the foods you love. Of course, as long as these foods fall under Sirtfoods.
How Does It Work?
Sirtfood diet is divided into two phases. One week, the 'hyper-success phase' followed by a two-week maintenance phase.
In the first three days of the first phase, you are required to lower your calorie intake to just 1000 calories a day, which will be increased to 1500 calories a day for the reaming four days of the first phase. You can only consume three Sirtfood green juices and one meal rich in Sirtfoods each day during this time.
Once the initial 7-day phase of restricted calories is complete, then you will start following a two-week maintenance phase.
Now the diet becomes less restricted, but the focus still remains on what is called 'Sirtfoods' in your diet.
The diet's creators say that these foods are the key to weight loss, triggering your body's ability to lose weight as well as bringing a range of health benefits.
Once all the phases have been completed, now you have hopefully become accustomed to your new way of life. You are still encouraged to continue eating a diet rich in Sirtfoods and to continue drinking your daily green juice.
What Are The Foods That You Should Be Eating?
The plan's creators, Aidan Goggins and Glen Matten suggest a list of top 20 Sirtfoods that form the focus of the diet — often incorporated into a smoothie. Green leaves are a big part of it, with kale, arugula, and parsley on the initial list, although many leaves contain high levels of the nutrients, like bok choi or even the humble watercress.
But there are some surprises. Foods that are often kicked off other diet lists because of their high calorific value are included in the Sirtfood diet. Food like nuts and olive oil and even more surprising is that both red wine and chocolate, as long as it has a high percentage of cocoa, are both on the list of Sirtfoods.

So, What Is So Special About These Sirtfoods?
The diet's creators came up with their list of Sirtfoods after years of research and testing. The foods all contain organic compounds known as polyphenols, but their inclusion on the list is not entirely based on how much polyphenols each food contains.
The diet was developed and refined following extensive testing in an exclusive London gym. Therefore, the choice was also based on the experience of people testing the diet and which foods were found to be most effective for weight loss.
Why Are The Polyphenols So Important?
The polyphenols in the foods are said to activate sirtuins in the body. These are seen as key to weight loss and weight maintenance and are claimed to bring a host of fat-burning benefits, most importantly speeding up your metabolism and curbing your appetite.
Sirtuins are also linked to reducing inflammation and preventing cell damage. The diet's supporters also suggest it can help extend the life span. Sirtfoods diet shares many similarities with the diets people eat in the world's 'blue zones' areas where people tend to have naturally long lives, so there seems to be a strong connection.
What Do Experts Say About This Diet?
Some research may indicate they help reduce appetite, and one study appears to show some evidence to back the claims about them helping promote long life.
On the other hand, there are no studies on the effects of sirtuins on humans' weight loss. Additionally, there's no evidence that these particular foods have a direct effect on sirtuin levels in the human body.
Some dieticians have suggested that the rapid weight loss reported by the followers of the diets is more likely to be water weight from the initial ultra-low calorie restriction phase.
However, most dieticians agree that the Sirtfoods that are included in the list form part of a healthy diet and that, in most cases, eating more of them will certainly have many benefits. Even chocolate and wine are generally seen as fine in moderation.
But all that said, many celebrities and athletes have achieved really amazing results following this diet.
