Under the first phase of development, the Rapid Rail will run from Ghaziabad's Sahibabad till Durai. It will be a 17-km-long corridor. The authorities have set a goal to finish construction by 2023. Rapid rail's top speed is 180 km per hour.
Over Rs 30,274 crore will be spent on its development.
Rapid rail stations will have direct connection with Noida and Greater Noida. The authorities will run 114 buses on 17 routes.
The Delhi–Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System is an 82.15 km (51.05 mi) long,semi-high speed rail corridor currently under construction which will connect Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut. It is one of three rapid rail corridors planned under Phase I of the Regional Rapid Transport System (RRTS) project managed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC). With a maximum speed of 180 km/h (111.85 mph), the distance between Delhi and Meerut will be covered in less than 60 minutes. The project will cost ₹30,274 crore (US$3.8 billion) and will have 24 stations including two depots at Duhai and Modipuram.
The Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is the first RRTS corridor to be implemented in India.
Multi-Modal Integration: RRTS stations will be integrated with various modes of transport like Airports, Railway Stations, Inter-State Bus Terminals, Delhi Metro Stations etc. It will facilitate the movement of commuters between modes.
Platform Screen Doors: All of the RRTS stations will have platform screen doors for enhanced commuter safety.
