It's a game of money....property.....negotiation....and a role of the dice.
This year's Monopoly World Championship at Caesar's Palace drew just over 40 national champions from around the world, including a 41-year old lab technician from Spain who won top honors at the last World Championship in 2004.

"I realized that I could compete internationally because I was more lucky than anybody else."

Rick Marinaccio (mare-in-AH-chee-oh) is the American competitor.
He won the U.S. Competition earlier this year.
[Notes:SOT -- RICK MARINACCIO/U.S. Champion]
Monopoly is a game about negotiating and trading...I found it difficult to trade through interpreters in the first game. It made the game a lot more about chance and the role of the dice..rather than who is the best negotiator.
[Notes:SOT --Hans-Georg Schellinger/Representing Germany]
Normally you cannot buy a monopoly for yourself...so you have to make a trade...sometimes...there is nearly no way to get a monopoly...and you have find a way to get a monopoly...then you need luck
[Notes:VO --PHOTOS OF WINNER]
Who had the most luck this year?
19-year old Bjorn Halvard (HAHL-vard) of Norway --who took home just over 20 thousand dollars in prize money.
In the final match -- he eliminated Marinaccio and two other players -- one from from Russia and the other from New Zealand.
