Behavior Adjustment Training also known as BAT 2.0 is a positive approach to solving leash reactivity that combines low-interference leash handling techniques with exposure therapy in an enriched environment to help a dog learn to self-regulate while walking on a leash.
BAT 2.0 gives a dog more freedom to explore the environment and choose how the walk progresses, reducing the amount of frustration a dog feels while walking on a leash, gives them the space and agency they need to adapt to coming across exciting or worrisome stimuli and no longer react to it.
At the same time, it's up to the dog's handler to keep them out of "hot water" and gently steer them away from situations that will push the dog over threshold. in order to prevent rehearsals of unwanted reactivity while walking on a leash.
