One of the countries keeping a close eye on our elections - and beyond- is China. It's a country investing heavily in what it calls its 'Belt and Road Initiative', which focusses on developing infrastructure in a hundred and fifty-two countries. At the same time, other countries that vie for influence in Africa, like the US, appear to be trying to craft some sort of response to the Chinese approach. Just recently, both the US and China have engaged in what's been described as a trade war, imposing heavy tariffs on each other's imports and exports.
