Aronia ( "A. melanocarpa" & "A. arbutifolia") shrubs are edimentals (edible ornamentals) that produce either red or black berries in late August/early September and even after several frosts. Their common name is Chokeberries which is a hint that their fruits may not be sweet. The best way to use the fruits is to place them in cold water to make a juice (do not heat –they release tannins.)
