Difficulties for families and patients facing dementia include a number of facets. One is recognizing dementia as a terminal, life-limiting illness and the decision for hospice care. Secondly is dealing with some of the common behaviors including repetition, wandering, agitation, and aggression. As the disease progresses health care providers and care-givers must adjust to the growing cognitive impairments. Hospice discussion tips, behavioral interventions, and some limitations to certain medications will be presented.
