In this video, Tris Allison, Senior Conservation Scientist at BirdLife International discussed the importance of sensitivity mapping for reconciling bird conservation with energy infrastructure and presented the AVISTEP tool as a concrete practical solution for ensuring this.
This video was created for and streamed at a webinar in May 2023, co-organised by RGI and DTEK Grids, the Ukranian grid operator, for technical colleagues in Ukraine. The goal of the event was to underline the importance of bird protection for the security of supply and safe operation of the grid and to present solution strategies. This video was also presented at a workshop for civil society in November 2023, organised by RGI within the framework of SafeLines4Birds. The workshop aimed to discuss the status quo of bird mortality along the grid and the steps needed towards a truly bird-friendly electricity grid in Europe.
