Nikky came to me with a crooked right paw. Although he was able to grasp and hold on well with his hand, he did not use his entire paw and always held it up close to his upper body. I decided to help the small animal because in this condition it might have fallen prey to its predators more quickly. So I called the local squirrel emergency number.
Nikky was caught and taken to a squirrel rescue center. First he was x-rayed by the vet. No bone fracture was detected. He probably had a muscle strain or sprain. He then received loving medical care and everything he needed in rehabilitation for more than two weeks. I was told he was able to eat his fill while doing this. :-) With his paw healed, Nikky was brought back to my neighborhood, i.e. his territory, where he happily climbed up his tree and hopped into his drey.
