Do you know this London hidden fact? This may seem like a normal London lamppost, but there’s quite an unusual story behind it.
During the Cold War, the Soviet Union’s KGB had numerous agents at work in London. A lot of these “illegal” agents needed some way to discreetly get their messages to their KGB superiors, So they would leave Their reports selected drop sites, also known as dead letter boxes. And you guessed it, this is one of those letterboxes. Located in front of 2 S Audley St, agents would leave their documents behind the small door to the rear of the post. To indicate there was a message waiting, a chalk mark was made near the base. #QuirkyLondonFacts #londonxlondon #londonhistory #audleystlamppost #explorelondon #discoverlondon
