A cmdlet is a lightweight script in Windows PowerShell that performs a single function. Cmdlets are expressed as verb-noun pairs in order to execute commands, like "Get-Location" or "Move-Item." A command delivers an order from the user to an operating system or application, performing services such as locating files or running a program.
Cmdlets have a .ps1 extension, along with a help file that includes a description of the cmdlet, the command syntax, parameters, and an example of how to use the cmdlet.
