Can you win Social Security disability benefits based on a diagnosis of Sjogren’s Syndrome?
As I discuss in this video, my experience has been that Sjogren’s alone may not be enough to convince a disability judge that you cannot perform the tasks required at a simple, entry-level job. However, Sjogren’s symptoms:
- dry eyes
- dry mouth
- skin rashes
- fatigue
- joint pain and stiffness
- dry cough
often reflect the presence of other autoimmune conditions. Frequently, Sjogren’s Syndrome can be associated with debilitating medical conditions like lupus, rheumatoid arthritis or fibromyalgia.
Often it can be hard to “draw lines” when diagnosing autoimmune disorders and a Sjogren’s diagnosis can be part of a bigger puzzle.
Furthermore, medication side effects from some of the treatments used in autoimmune disorder care can create significant work limitations. Fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and bathroom issues may themselves create impediments to reliable performance at work.
