Syria Crisis LIVE: Deadly Protests in Syria; Assad's Supporters Clash with Police, 5 Killed
Thousands of people protested across Syria on December 25 triggering curfew in some areas. This after a video circulated showing an attack on an Alawite shrine in Aleppo's Maysaloon district in the north. The Syrian war monitor stated that at least five people were killed and the shrine was set ablaze. However, the Syrian Interior Ministry said the footage was old and had been republished to stir up strife among the Syrian people during the transition phase. The rebel government also blamed an unknown group for the attack. Protests broke out in the coastal cities of Latakia, in the northwest, and Tartus, in the west. Both cities are strongholds of the Alawite minority group. Protests also occurred in Homs, in western Syria, and in Qardaha, a town in the northwest. The Syrian authorities have imposed a curfew in Homs until December 26, following reports of one person being killed and five others injured.
