About Motivational Interviewing:
Motivational Interviewing is a collaborative conversational and counseling style for strengthening a person’s motivation and commitment to change. It has been particularly helpful in highlighting the presence of ambivalence in the change process and providing meaningful ways to interact with individuals who are struggling with their motivation to make changes in their substance use and other health related behaviors. MI pays particular attention to the relational stance between individuals (e.g. building a respectful and empathetic environment) and offers guidance on how to build and navigate collaborative conversations that help individuals resolve their ambivalence.
