In the latest episode of our history of The Quarrymen, we look at Pete Shotton on John Lennon. When John Lennon moved to live with his Aunt Mimi, Pete Shotton was one of the first boys he met, along with Ivan Vaughan and Nigel Walley.
Pete Shotton soon became best friends with John Lennon, and so, when John Lennon formed The Quarrymen in 1956, it was inevitable that Pete Shotton would be part of the group. Shotton was given the washboard and was part of the first lineup of The Quarrymen. It was Pete Shotton who, with John Lennon, made the decisions in the group, and so played an important role in asking Paul McCartney to join The Quarrymen, the skiffle group that became The Beatles.
