It was first lit in the tabernacle and later in the temple. The Menorah you see in this Old City courtyard is an exact replica of the one from ancient times.
During the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah, we light a special menorah called a “hanukkiah” with eight branches, celebrating the miraculous oil that burned for eight days. But we will tell you more about that in December.
