Friends, thank you again for joining us on our series Tips on Sharing Your Faith. Today we're gonna focus in on how to respond to Jehovah's Witnesses? Usually that comes out when Jehovah's Witnesses come to your door. So the question is, can you help them or is it a waste of time? I had lunch with a good friend a couple weeks ago and he asked me. He said, "Jehovah's Witnesses came to my door "and so I talked with them and I did pretty well "but should I meet with them again "or is it a wast of time?" So I said to him, "To answer that question "you really need to understand two huge areas of difference "between what Jehovah's Witnesses teach "and what Christianity teaches." Because Jehovah's Witnesses have deviated from the core doctrines of the Christian faith. The deity of Christ, the death of Christ, and the salvation that Christ offers. For example, they do not believe that Jesus Christ is God. He is a created being created by Jehovah, he is not co-equal with Jehovah, he is like the highest of angels, but a created being. They do not believe that Jesus' death on the cross was a payment for the sins of the whole world. Because Jesus was less than God, what happened at the cross was deficient and therefore when it comes to salvation that's being offered they do not believe that salvation is the gift of God. They believe that works need to be added to it in order to accomplish their salvation. They need to work in order to get saved, stay saved, or work their way to heaven. So Christianity believes that Jesus Christ is God, that Jesus Christ's death paid for the sins of the whole world because it was God incarnate that was dying on the cross and his death, once for all paid for the sins of the whole world, and therefore the salvation that God offers us is rich and full, it's free. It's the free gift of God not as a result of any of our works. Romans says, "The free gift of God is eternal life "through Jesus Christ our Lord." It's absolutely free, there's no works involved. And so there is a major deviation between what Jehovah's Witnesses believe about the core doctrines of the Christian faith and what Christianity, the historical Christian faith believes. The apostles created the Nicene Creed, what we believed for 20 centuries now. The second area of major difference, deep difference, really a chasm between what Jehovah's Witnesses believe and what Christianity teaches has to do with the basis, the authority for why they believe what they believe. We, in the Christian faith, believe that the Bible is our ultimate authority. So we base what we believe on the Bible. Jehovah's Witnesses have a new translation that's called the New World Translation and in that translation their translators have gone in and they've distorted passages for example on the deity of Christ so that what they come up with in the English translation is different from what the Greek actually teaches. Let me explain. I was in front of Vons Supermarket and I was waiting to be picked up in about 10 to 15 minutes and there was a Jehovah's Witness lady there passing out what the Watchtower Tracts to people who were coming into the store. And every once in a while there'd be a lull in the conversation on in people coming in so she would come over to me and offer me a tract and I would say, "No thank you," and she'd go back and pass the Watchtower out to different people coming in again but when there was a lull she came back over, tried to engage me again, I said, "No thank you, I'm fine." Well, then she goes back to passing it out. The third time she came back she said, "What are you afraid of?" And I said well, "I'm not afraid of anything "but ultimately we will not agree because for example, "you believe that Jesus Christ is not God "whereas we believe Jesus Christ is God. "And you believe that because you base that "on the New World Translation of the Bible.
