William Wordsworth's epic autobiographical poem 'The Prelude' was never completed; however, it is considered a masterpiece of romantic poetry, remembered for its thematic exploration of the links between humans and nature.
In this extract, which features in AQA's GCSE literature power and conflict series, Wordsworth recounts his experience as a young man rowing out onto a lake where he witnesses the awesome power of nature, which leaves him awesrtruck and troubled.
