LOS ANGELES - A resident escaped serious injury when he jumped to safety from the second floor, as flames swept through an L-shaped two story residential five-plex at 1435 West 2nd Street in the Westlake District on the evening of February 11, 2020.
In the aftermath of a fierce 33 minute firefight, one of 42 Los Angeles Firefighters at the scene sustained moderate injury, when the roof of the century old structure gave way, toppling him into a subgrade external light well at the perimeter of the 2,389 square-foot building. Conscious and alert, he was taken by LAFD ambulance to an area hospital in fair condtion for treatment of signficant chest trauma that was appeared to be non-life threatening.
The cause of the fire remains under active investigation.
