Thani Avartanam is an important segment in a Carnatic concert, especially for a percussionist to display his skill in individual improvisation. Perattu, Mohra and Korvai are crucial elements in any Thani Avartanam.
Watch Anamya Bhatia, a SIFAS Mridangam student of Guru Tripunithura Sreekanth, present the konnakol and mridangam exposition of Perattu, Mohra and Korvai in Khanda Jati Triputa Tala (also know as Dushkara, which is its samskruta name).
Khanda Jati Triputa Tala (or Dushkara) falls under the parent tala, Triputa and therefore, has the anga (or structure) of Laghu-Dhruta-Dhruta. It has a total of 5 + 2 + 2 = 9 aksharas (or beats).
