On the 17th of October 2007, Isha Judd was invited by the directors of the Reclusorio del Oriente high security prison in Mexico City to teach the her System to more than 950 inmates. The auditorium was packed, and the atmosphere buzzed with excited curiosity. With almost ten percent of the prison´s population present, it was only the second time the prison officials could remember ever seeing the room so full.
The men where restless, shuffling in their seats and murmuring... until Isha came into the room. Then something amazing happened. In respectful silence, the audience listened with baited breath as Isha began to speak. Her presence filled the room, enveloping the crowd, captivating their attention.
Isha spoke about love, about inner freedom; she told them that freedom was just as accessible to them as to anyone else in the world: that it could only be found in their own hearts.
"All humans think that they have to change something on the outside in order to experience freedom, to experience peace, to experience joy. But it is not true. What we have to change is ourselves; our internal experience. Once we change that, the outside starts to change by itself.".
To watch almost a thousand prisoners close their eyes obediently and practice the facets was deeply moving. Their sincere desire for change was plain to see, and to imagine that now one of every ten in the Reclusorio del Oriente has these tools available to them whenever they need them, is truly inspiring. As they settled down to unify, a latecomer beckoned to one of the visiting teachers, and whispered to her with hopeful innocence, "Is this really going to remove all the bad stuff I have inside?"
This event was a concrete advance in Isha´s endeavor to bring the her System to the world. The impact it will have on society is something of great value, and with the participation of officials from several other penitenciaries, the invitations to repeat the experience have already begun to arrive.
Isha reached out and touched the hearts of these men. She gave them back something that many had long given up on: the opportunity to love themselves. "There is no difference between you and me. We are exactly the same." When Isha said these words, it was hard to imagine what the prisoners we thinking. One thing was certain: no one had ever said that to them before.
