STORYLINE:
Iran's Chief Nuclear Negotiator attacked US president Barack Obama on Tuesday, condemning his recent speech on recent events in the Middle East.
Saeed Jalili said that Obama was insincere about democracy and the so called fight against terror, echoing earlier comments made by Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinehad.
"Today, out of desperation, Obama wants to introduce himself to the nations of our region with terms such as democracy, the fight against terrorism and condemnation of violence; nevertheless, today nations recognise America as linked with dictatorship and suppression," Jalili said.
The comments were made in a speech celebrating the anniversary of the liberation of Khoramshahr city in 1981, after it was conquered by Saddam Hussein's regime during the Iran-Iraq war.
Jalili went on to warn the United States, saying that it might be the next regime to face an uprising.
"We are witnessing an Islamic awakening and America has to know that the fate of dictators will be the fate of their masters in the next stage."
His comments were cheered by a crowd of hard-line students, who waved Egyptian and Bahraini flags to show their support for the recent uprisings across the Middle East.
In Tuesday's ceremony, which also marked the birthday anniversary of Fatima, Prophet Muhammad's daughter, top Revolutionary Guards commanders, war veterans and university students were also present.
