Note: since the 1990s, the numbering of Hindemith's string quartets has been updated to reflect the posthumous publication of the early String Quartet op. 2, which is now considered ''No. 1.'' This means that the two string quartets op. 22 and op. 32, which on this record are designated as No. 3 and No. 4, are nowadays labelled as No. 4 and No. 5. To avoid confusion, I follow the current numbering.
