Join us as we interview our friend Luis from Merida about the coronavirus situation in Mexico.
We met Luis and his beautiful family during our first home exchange in Mexico. Luis is from Venezuela and his wife from Colombia. They live in Merida Mexico with their two daughters.
Mérida is a gorgeous city with a rich Mayan and colonial heritage. It is also the capital of the Mexican state of Yucatán and was named ‘American Capital of Culture” due to its abundant riches of unique heritage, architectures, archaeological sites, and beaches.
Unfortunately, Mexico is in dire situation due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It is in the most serious stage of the coronavirus pandemic where the virus is expected to spread the fastest, hitting its peak in the first half of May. On top of it, the country is also experiencing attacks against healthcare workers - the first line of defense against the pandemic.
Luis also speaks about the situation in Venezuela and Colombia. Venezuela is still in crisis mode, and Colombia is in an even more serious situation with almost no CoronaVirus testing available in the country.
A large majority of Mexicans support the work done by president Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador to contain the coronavirus outbreak and agree with a decision to extend quarantine measures until the end of May..
Mexico’s government has ordered schools and non-essential businesses to close but it has not imposed a strict curfew, unlike some countries in Latin America.
