Note: The small lift was out of service for a period of a few months, therefore its indicator shows "Ausser Betrieb" (out of service). This video is comprised of footage from several visits.
These Lifts are situated in a tower block in Berne that contains apartments and offices. They were installed in 2010 and replace a set of older lifts which probably were installed by Schindler, as suggested by the counterweight of the bigger lift. The car/counterweight arrangement of the smaller lift has been changed in the course of the replacement. The concreted holes in the ceiling from the old arrangement are still visible.
With the well-specced speed of 2m/s, these lifts are faster than many others in Berne and they are able to move around the masses of people that frequent this building quickly and efficiently. The Ziehl-Abegg ZATop motors are an ideal choice for such higher speeds. They are much more long lasting than the Sassi geared machines usually installed by Emch. Also their operation is almost completely silent. The Unidrive SP is a capable and reliable drive and behaves well with the Kollmorgen MPK400 controller. The DCP 4 communication protocol between the two allows for direct levelling with no creep distance at the end of each trip.
The bigger of the two lifts serves as a fireman's lift and is fitted with an emergency exit hatch as well as the two needed ladders to climb out of the lift car. The fireman's floor to start fireman's operation is the 1st basement instead of ground floor, which is rather unusual.
