This exhibition examines the human presence and performance history at the Pavilion since its opening on 12 December 1935. Showing in parallel with The People's Pavilion, Our First 80 Years exhibition in Gallery 2, Doing Looking Working Performing will offer an alternative perspective of the social and cultural history of the De La Warr Pavilion.
Created during an eight hour, improvised live performance (each hour representing a decade of the De La Warr Pavilion's history) on Saturday 18 June using voice, music, sound recordings and material drawn from the De La Warr Pavilion's archive and the Bexhill Observer archive. A montage of the artwork generated will then be applied to the walls using clay, paint and pins, preserving traces of the performance that created it.
