Ammonia is a chemical product that has a variety of purposes. It can be used to make explosives, fertilizers, cleaning products, and more. Ammonia is also an effective pest killer. It can be used to kill ants, roaches, fleas, and other bugs.
However, ammonia should be used in a specific way to avoid harming humans or pets. In this video, we will show you all about using ammonia to get rid of certain types of pests.
1, Rats.
Ammonia is a powerful and practical repellent for rats as they can’t stand the pungent smell of ammonia and therefore will leave and disperse elsewhere. For this to work you will need to make a mixture of ammonia in water. To do this, Pour a litre of water in a bowl; then mix two tablespoons of detergent and 2 cups of regular ammonia in it. Then place this bowl in the area where the rats are infested and let it work its magic.
2, Squirrels.
If your squirrels have made there way into your attic or some other place you want to keep them out of, you can soak multiple old rags in ammonia and place them all over your attic or in places you want them removed from. After about a day the squirrels will have left, because the smell of ammonia is unbearably strong to most small animals and rodents.
3, Mice.
Most experts agree that ammonia is an effective way to get rid of mice in certain situations.
Ammonia is a strong-smelling chemical that can irritate mice. When used as a mouse repellent, it works by overwhelming the rodents’ senses and causing them to flee.
To use ammonia for mice, take little plastic cups and fill these containers with ammonia, and strategically place them where the mice are.
You can also make an ammonia spray by mixing ammonia and water in a spray bottle. Also add a little dish soap to the mixture. Shake well before each use and Spray this mixture around the areas where you see rats or mice before. When they come into contact with the ammonia, it will cause them to flee away.
4, Skunks.
It may seem ironic, but skunks hate certain odors. Citrus, ammonia, mothballs and predator urine such as dogs and coyotes are smells that can scare off skunks.
Use ammonia-soaked rags or mothballs in skunk hangouts. The harsh smell of ammonia and mothballs has been known to scare away skunks. Although they don't offer a permanent solution and will have to be reapplied as the smell of the chemicals fades, they do help in the short-term.
