Prawn here showing you how to update the BIOS on your MSI Z790 motherboard so that you can use 14th generation Intel CPUs. There are two different methods to this the first of which you can do without actually powering your PC on. Here I'm using the MSI MPG Z790 EDGE TI MAX WIFI motherboard ([ Ссылка ]) but the logic should apply to most MSI motherboards.
You can use this process to update your BIOS pretty easily, but you'll need a decent sized USB drive and an alternative source to download the BIOS update. I used a SanDisk Ultra Flair 64 GB and a spare machine.
Format that USB drive to Fat32 and make sure it's clear of other data.
Grab the latest BIOS update from MSI's website by visiting the support page for your relevant motherboard (e.g. [ Ссылка ]) and download it.
Then you'll need to extract it and copy it to the USB drive. I'd recommend copying the file again and then renaming it to MSI.ROM. The other version can be used to update your system using M-Flash instead if necessary.
Note before you start that updating the BIOS can be dangerous as it can brick your system if you're not careful. So take CARE and most importantly be patient and don't rush. Don't power your system off while it's happening either.
With the BIOS on the USB drive insert it into the BIOS flash port on your motherboard and press the BIOS Flash button. Watch the red flashing light and wait.
