Created by Ray Smith, the Dean of Esopus Creek sometime in the mid-20th century, the Red Fox is a fairly typical Catskill style dry fly.
Hook: #12-16 dry fly
Thread: Black, tan or dun
Tail: Wood duck or mallard flank
Body: Red fox fur dubbing
Wing: Wood duck or mallard flank, tied split
Hackle: Ginger dry fly
