Warning: Please don't try to FIND this area, lots of people know where it is so I'm sure if you ask enough someone will show you. There have been some tragedies in here over the years, so it's not to be taken lightly. Ride with a buddy, have a plan and make sure at least one of you knows where you're going. Another year and back riding our (collectively) favourite run on the mountains, though not technically a run, more of an area: Khyber Pass. This area of natural glades off Whistler Mountain drops over 1000m (3300ft) and offers a huge variety in terrain, snow conditions and many other hazards, and so should not be attempted alone or when the group is new to the area, its more fun with friends anyways.

Snow conditions this year have been pretty underwhelming. We had a couple good storms come in early December with a bunch more snow forecast. However an Arctic high pressure front came down and pushed that storm over the west coast of the U.S. It was a cold week or so with temperatures dropping to -35C/ -22F with wind-chill. This was followed by some fluctuating freezing levels; Christmas Eve was forecast as a 15-20cm of snow, but an late inversion just put a crust on top of the powder.

As this area drops so much that bottom section and ride out can get a little nasty. and with the snow conditions despite it being end of December, few people have been down. That is changing, we were on the cusp on what most would consider rideable, and the last few snowfalls have really helped the cause. The ride-out was in terrible condition which isn't great.

One of the positives is a lot more obstacles, fallen logs available to ride, just watch your head.
