The Divine Beauty of Ganga Aarti
As the evening dusk settles down, thousands of people in and around Haridwar flock at Har Ki Pauri Ghat well in advance to witness the beauty and to be blessed as well. As Haridwar is the entry point for the four famous pilgrimage in Uttarakhand, which are Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. The first major city which the river Ganga passes through is Haridwar. A dip in the Ganges of Haridwar is believed to wash away ones sins. However, it is not the only reason why people from all over the world in Haridwar to witness Ganga Aarti

Started by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Ganga Aarti is both an uplifting spiritual ritual and a magnificent treat for vision. It is the ritual that uses fire as offering, usually in the form of lit lamp. The Aarti takes place facing the river. The lamps are lit and circled around by priests in a clockwise manner, accompanied by singing prayers of Goddess Ganga. A small diya (lamp) with flowers, is also left to float in the river by thousands during the event. This spiritual event is performed twice daily. One at early morning and the other in the evening.
