'ESA's comet chaser Rosetta has obtained the first close-up pictures of the largest asteroid ever visited. In July 2010, it flew past the asteroid 21-Lutetia, sending back astounding images of this 130-km size space rock. "We have discovered a new world," said the scientists at the time, even though most of the data recorded during the encounter had yet to be sent back to Earth. This video recalls the night's events at the European Space Agency's Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany, where several hundred guests followed this historic event. It includes the key moments, the first images of the asteroid seen at close quarters and interviews with ESA spacecraft managers and the OSIRIS camera team.
