So I walk into Butts Gun Sales and the owner throws me what looks to be another one of Kalashnikov's designs. I kindly accept as I'm alway eager to shoot new or different variants of firearms. Being unfamiliar with this paticular rifle, the first thing I did when I got home was field strip it. To my surprise, it has very little in common with the AK 47 other than the outside looks at a passing glance, the 7.62x39 round, and perhaps the sights. Other than that I was pleased to find out it is it's own animal. A quick search on the internet revealed that this rifle is based off of the Czech made VZ58 which had a more extensive service record than I would think. The first thing I noticed was that it is a striker fired rifle! I'm not kidding. That was unique and and intersting enough for me to rush down to the range and see how it handled.
One of the first things you may notice when picking this rifle up is how light weight it is. It is at least a pound lighter than most AK 47s. This was a big plus for me. What is not to like about a capable rifle that is light and compact? Above all else, the $400-$500 price tag is what grabbed my interest!
Special thanks to Buttsgunsales.com for supplying this unique rifle for review.
