Cardiac Catheterization.
A narrow tube is inserted into the femoral artery (groin), threaded through the arterial system, and into the arteries that surround and supply blood to the heart. A contrast dye is injected, and X-ray pictures are taken to diagnose the disease.
The femoral artery is one of the main arteries of the lower limb. The common access site to perform a cardiac catheterization would be the common femoral artery. The common femoral artery is an extension of the external iliac artery (a terminal branch of the abdominal aorta).
