The deadline for workers in the Northern Territory to get their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is looming with a vaccine mandate to come into effect on Saturday.
The health directive makes it mandatory for any worker who interacts with the public to have at least one dose or risk losing their jobs.
Chief Minister Michael Gunner says unvaccinated public servants who don't have an exemption will be dismissed if alternative "genuine" roles cannot be found.
They could also be hit with a $5,000 fine if they try to show up to work.
Vaccination rates in remote areas of the Northern Territory continue to lag despite double-dose vaccination rates having reached 80 per cent coverage for people 16 years and over.
