Today on this 2016 Ford Escape we're going to be test fitting the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack System, consisting of Part Numbers RRVA137B-2, which are going to be the cross bars themselves. Part Number RRRLKVA, which are the legs, and then Part Number DK375, which will be the clamp system that holds it into place. As you can see we already have the front one installed. We put it together, set it on the top, and measuring from the door jamb out figured out exactly where it was supposed to be according to the instructions. It has a nice aerodynamic shape, which is going to cut down wind drag. We've got the front one installed. Let's go ahead and show you how the rear one goes on. We already have some of it assembled, just one side of it.
I'm going to show you how the other half goes. We've got it flipped over, upside down. Go ahead and take off the end cap first. Then we'll take our leg, with this tab here we're going to slide it into this T-slot, loosely at first. Go ahead and put the end cap back in so we don't lose it.
Then we'll measure out, again, according to the instructions how far out this needs to be. Normally there would be a strip you would have here that you could cut up and put in it's place, so it always stays in that position. For demonstration purposes we'll leave that out. Let's go ahead and make our measurement here. Then we'll take our included tightening tool, go to this bolt on the inside, tighten it down. Once you've got it snug you can go ahead and double check the measurement, and make sure it didn't move, which it did just a little bit.
Let's loosen that up a hair. Then finish tightening that down. Then we'll take our included pads to go on the bottom of the legs. You want to make sure that the arrow is facing towards the front. We'll double check with our other side here real quick.
We'll go ahead and push it in place, it just pops in. Then we'll take our clamp and put that in place as well. You'll see this screw at the end here. We'll take that out. We'll take our clamp, fit it in, reinsert the screw, just loosely for now, if I can manage even that. While I'm here, also lock our end cap piece in place, so again with the included tool, now that can't be removed. Now we'll go to our vehicle and open up our two rear doors, and get ready to place our rear crossbar in place. Gently set it down. Then we'll get our measuring tape, and we're going to measure front center to center of the crossbar spread. You're going to want to double check with your instructions to make sure this is correct. This needs to go down quite a ways. We'll do the same thing on the other side. Double check one more time. Again, we'll go back to our blue-handled tool, and we'll go to our clamp here, loosely tighten it, get it snug up against the car here, or SUV. Once we get it snug, we'll go ahead and give it about five turns to each side until we have it completely tightened down. We'll go back and forth until this is fully tightened down. Some accessories you can use with your roof rack would be bike racks, kayak carriers, cargo baskets. A screen for cargo boxes as well, ski carriers. I would like to point something out here. Once this is fully tightened down, once you push on this bar here when it's completely straight, you see it's curved. When it's completely straight that means it's torqued to it's specifications. I'll go ahead and install our covers here, which are lockable. A little bit of extra security there. Our install is complete. There you have it for the Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Roof Rack System for our 2016 Ford Escape.
