The Noisy Pitta is the most Widespread of the the Australasian Pittas and it's range is from the tip of Cape York down to Southern New South Wales. They are attitudinal Migrants, meaning they move to higher altitudes in Summer to breed. Noisy Pittas are known as the 'Jewel of the forest' due to their array of colours. They can be heard hopping through the forest and feed mainly on the floor. Their food includes worms and grubs but also Rain forest Snails. Their call, which has been described as 'walk to work' is most often heard when breeding but also at dawn and dusk throughout the year. This species, chosen for my ABVC logo, has become a special bird for me over the years and indeed it was a task to choose a few clips from my extensive library of this species. I am also blessed to have them as a garden bird in the winter. Tim Siggs. ABVC.
