“It was a great honor to meet my dear sister H.E. Mrs. Fatoumatta Bah-Barrow, The Gambia First Lady and Ambassador of ‘Merck Foundation More than a Mother’, to discuss Merck Foundation programs and our long-term partnership to build healthcare capacity, break infertility stigma and support Girl education. We have also discussed a new program to support people with determination in The Gambia. We underscored our long-term commitment to raising awareness through our 'More than a Mother' awards on best media coverage, film, song and fashion design with the aim to empower women with infertility and support girl education in Gambia.
Together with Gambia First Lady, Merck Foundation provided more than 34 scholarships to doctors for a one-year diploma and two-year master's degree in underserved and critical specialties to transform patient care in Gambia. We planned to scale up our scholarship programs to create a strong platform of skilled and specialized Gambian doctors in public sector to continue making history and building a strong and valuable legacy together. “
