Former Liverpool team mates Michael Owen and Jason McAteer were involved in an angry scuffle during a six-a-side tournament in Glasgow. The pair were playing in the Star Sixes tournament over the weekend, where England beat McAteer's Republic of Ireland 1-0 in the semi-final of the competition. Tempers flared when McAteer pulled at Owen's shirt from behind. Owen then swiped McAteer's legs from behind and the Irishman fell to the floor. The two then raced towards each other and pushed one another before the officials and other players intervened. The referee quickly brandished a yellow card for Owen, before giving McAteer a red and sending him off. England went on to win the tournament, beating Rest of the World 3-2 in the final. McAteer felt he was treated unfairly by the ref. "The referee got it wrong," he said, after the tournament. "We had a little pulling of the shirt, spun around and then Michael Owen decided to lash out and I didn't think I wanted to let him get away with it. "The referee decided he didn't see it, or he didn't want to see it because it was England and Michael Owen. "We made up a bit and then I gave him a friendly push up the backside."
