About the Designs:
The Miuccia Prada and Raf Simon spring collection's ribbed sweaters and taffeta minis with trains are this season's street-style must-haves—they're easily the most photographed pieces since the designers teamed together in early 2020. That's partly due to the pandemic—there were fewer occasions to flaunt Prada trophies a year ago—but primarily because they make for an odd match that's as easy to wear as it is recognisable. It appears that all of this adds up to something ineffable at the moment.

On top of these items, Prada and Simons exhibited simple Shetland wool sweaters and others that recalled the label's breakout "ugly" patterns from the 1990s; mannish single-breasted and double-breasted jackets with rings of faux fur or feathers on the upper sleeves; and oversized MA1s with paillettes. There was that emphasis on unexpected pairings, and the sense of significance that kind of intentionality creates: making an occasion out of the mundane.

The style didn't go to the extremities of last month's men's collection, but the proportions—black coat dresses draped with misaligned pearl necklaces, black and shocking pink leather trenches—were exaggerated. The shapes communicated strength rather than the decorum or daintiness that the lingerie foundation beneath suggested. The cast, which includes models who walked Prada runways 20 years ago—Erin O'Connor, Liya Kebede, Elise Crombez, and Hannelore Knuts—along with newcomers like Hunter Schafer—emphasized this message.
