Francis was pictured waving to crowds from the plane steps on Sunday afternoon in the final showpiece of his two-day visit in Dublin's Phoenix Park, where some 500,000 tickets had been issued, although aerial shots showed some gaps in the crowd amid pouring rain and claims that less than half the ticket-holders had turned up. Catholic pilgrims gathered in torrential rain in Dublin, some of them waiting for hours for a chance to see Pope Francis, who visited the holy shrine at Knock this morning and once again addressed the topic of clerical abuse which has threatened to overshadow his visit. The 81-year-old, who flew to County Mayo to see the shrine, said no-one could be failed to be moved by stories of young abuse victims who were 'robbed of their innocence' and 'left scarred by painful memories'. Demonstrators including a Say Nope to the Pope rally also gathered for a second day to protest the Catholic Church's role the mistreatment of young people.
