here is what a recent study presented at The Obesity Society Annual Meeting in Boston has found ……… new arsenal to combat food cravings by tricking your brain.And that’s tapping the forehead for 30 seconds in times of craving.
Richard Weil, director of the New York Obesity Research Center said the technique of tapping the forehead is dynamic, that included a movement, which engages more regions of the brain making it a task more complicated and so it requires more work in the brain, and thus, more distraction.Hence this technique worked well.
Another study found that sometimes the best way to beat cravings is by tweaking your mindset. Researchers from Brown University used MRI scans to examine the brain activity of obese or overweight study participants as they looked at pictures of drool-worthy foods like pizza, French fries and ice cream, they told them to:
1.Get distracted by thinking about something other than food.
2.Accept and allow their thoughts as something they didn’t need to act on.
3.Focus on the negative long-term consequences of eating those goodies.
4.Think about the immediate rewards of indulging.
This strategy evoked increased responses in regions of the brain involved in inhibitory control, which may suggest a mechanism through which thinking about long-term negative outcomes could serve to reduce cravings,” says study author Kathryn Demos, PhD, Assistant professor at Brown University.
