We have planned the perfect NYC Thanksgiving!!! Of course the perfect Thanksgiving Day in New York must include the worlds biggest and most famous parade, The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and other magical holiday things. We set our alarms for 6 AM, grabbed a few hotel towels to sit on and then claimed or spot on the parade route by 7. The Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade is 2.5 miles long and it runs down the middle of Manhattan, ending at Macy's in Herald Square. We picked a spot on the route on the corner of 6th and 51st. We chose 51st as our cross street because it was close to where we wanted to have lunch. The parade brings in 3.5 million spectators and we knew those spectators would all be hungry by the ending at noon. We enjoyed the parade so much. We got to see humongous balloons of Snoopy, Baby Yoda, Pikachu, Blues Clues and Paw Patrol. My favorite part may have been the marching bands and of course, Santa Clause at the finale.
After the parade ended, we walked to Ellen's Stardust Diner. Ellen's Stardust Diner if the famous diner that has Broadway quality singers as their wait staff. The serves take turns belting out tunes. This is one of the best shows in New York City, especially with kids.
Next on or list is Central Park. We had fun games of tag in the Sheep Meadow and explored the Central Park Zoo, which is open everyday including major holidays. The playful seals, the childrens zoo and the 4D movie The Polar Express where some of the highlights.
As the sun started to set we took the subway down to Rolf's, a German restaurant on the East side of NYC. Rolf's gets a holiday makeover over every November with extravagant Christmas decorations and bulbs from floor to ceiling. Here is where we had our traditional Thanksgiving feast of Turkey and dressing. Rolf's is the best restaurant for Thanksgiving Dinner. We end the night with a ride on the Seaglass Carousel in Battery Park. The Seaglass fish are in a dazzling jewel box aquarium.
The next morning we wake up with a surprise visit from or Elf On The Shelf. We get ready and set off for Macy's in Herald Square to go to Santaland. Santaland is a beautiful Christmas world on the 8th floor where kids can meet and talk to Santa Clause. Santaland is completely free but you do need to make reservations. I recommend going the Friday morning after the Thanksgiving Day Parade, because after your meet and greet with Santa Clause you get to partake in the Black Friday Deals at this humongous store.
If you are looking for things to do in NYC feel free to copy this day. If you have any other great ideas on things to do in New York City for the holidays, leave it in the comments. I'm interested to hear your perfect New York City Holiday plans.
