The United States is imposing sanctions on Myanmar’s military leadership after a coup in February resulted in the deposition of the democratically elected government.
President Joe Biden said the incident remains a “subject of deep concern” for the United States and Washington is currently in the process of trying to attempt to prevent the generals from accessing $1 billion in Burmese funds held in America.
He has called for the military to relinquish power and restore democratic rule.
“As protests grow, violence against those asserting their Democratic rights is unacceptable and we’re going to keep calling it out," the president said.
