Papaya Thoran/Papaya Stir Fry/Kerala style
In Kerala, no meal is ever complete without a “thoran”. Thoran is a side-dish, which is usually eaten with rice. There are a variety of thorans that are made, catering to the taste buds of Keralite. Papaya thoran is one such variety of thoran that is popular across Kerala. The video features the Kerala style preparation of Papaya thoran.
Ingredients
Raw papaya (small papaya grated)
Fresh grated coconut 4 tbsp
Urug dal 1 tbsp
Mustard seed 1/2 tsp
Shallots 4
Green chili 2
Curry leaves
Dry red chili 1
Coconut oil 2tsp
Salt
Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
Method of preparation
Grind coconut with green chili, shallots and curry leaves.
Add coconut oil into a heated pan.
When coconut oil is heated, add mustard seeds and dry red chilies.
Add urug dal and curry leaves and mix well.
When Urug dal changes its colour to light brown, add grated papaya and mix.
Add turmeric powder.
Cook in low flame by covering the lid.
Open the lid and stir frequently.
Add grated coconut and mix. Cook for 2 to 3 minutes by covering the lid.
Open the lid and mix well.
Papaya thoran is ready to serve. Enjoy this healthy cum tasty dish with your afternoon meal.
