REMEMBRANCE DAY - November 11, 2022.
Every year at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, all the Canadians pause to observe two minutes of silence to honour the fallen heroes, both men and women, who performed their duties and still serve the country in war conflicts.
Canadians recognize the sacrifices and honour the memory of those who was fighting for Canada during the First World War, the Second World War and Korean War as well as all of those who fell victims to war conflicts nowadays.
More than 1 500 000 Canadians served the country at different times and more than 100 000 of those servicemen died. They gave their lives and their future for us, modern Canadians, so we could live in peace and safety.
This remarkable day the Canadian Association of the World War II veterans from the Soviet Union with the support of Friends Network Organization decided to gather all the veterans together and thank them for their act of bravery. For that purpose the Association ordered the pins devoted to the 70th anniversary of the Accession of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II to the Throne and printed the certificates.
The President of the Association Yuriy Soloviev and the Vice-President Boris Gurevich made a congratulatory speech and presented the pins of honour.
The speakers said many kind words and wishes as well as patriotic poems were proclaimed.
It is necessary to note that Remembrance Day is important not only for veterans, it reminds us, citizens of Canada, that it is thanks to them we live under the peaceful sky overhead.
It was an honour personally for me to contribute to this ceremony, because my great grandfather and grandmother participated in the Great Patriotic War and gave us the future.
Happy to say that Canada as a multicultural country cares about its veterans.
We would like to believe that the number of veterans won’t decrease dramatically, because the oldest veteran in the association Viktor Khomenko is already 105 years old! We sincerely wish our veterans strong health and many happy years of life ahead.
They will be always in our minds and memories of their children, grandchildren and future generations.
