Hyperbolas on a graph represent two parabolas facing away from each other but the definition of a hyperbola is the difference between the distance of a set of points and the foci are equal for all points. Just like an ellipse a hyperbola has two foci, a center, vertices and a transverse axis where the center, vertices, and foci all lie. It will be important to determine if our transverse axis is horizontal or vertical as the equation for the two will be different.
