It is time to address the chaos in the pantry, yes it's time to organise the herbs and spices.
How to organize the spice rack is not so hard if you have enough jars and shelf space for all of your herbs and spices, but this isn't always the case.
Now I know my herbs and spices are all in date, as I use them all so much and check they are still fresh and in good condition when I am using them, however, they are located in numerous locations and my main spice rack only holds 16 bottles.
I regularly use way more than 16 herbs and spices, so for convenience I am going to
find suitable glass storage jars, that seal well and fit a good amount of the food in them.
Design a spice rack, based on the size of wood I can buy in my small town, the space I want the rack to go and the amount and size of jars to go on the herb & spice rack.
To label the jars, I use a fine paint pen to write directly on the jars because I have never been able to find matching labels for all of the varieties I use, besides it looks pretty good, even for a left handed writer.
I make the herb and spice rack from pine and I stain part of the rack and paint the rest, using products from the shed, that match the rest of the kitchen.
What I love about paint and varnished furniture, is that you can always paint it a different color when it is time for a change or makeover.
I screwed a hook on the side of the rack, drilling a small pilot hole first, to hang the spice spoons. Having the spice spoons on the rack means they are always ready to use.
It feels so good to have my herbs and spices together in an organised fashion.

We grow all of our herbs for both eating and medicinal purposes as well as hunt, fish and forage.
We preserve our produce for the year ahead by canning, dehydrating and freezing and we work on being prepared for emergency situations.
We live using less waste, we recycle and upcycle and love finding what is needed for a project at the scrap yard, op shop or a garage sale, but only buy what is really needed.
We don't like plastic, chemicals and artificial fragrances and are trying to live an older style life balanced with this modern world lifestyle.
Good health and natural living has always been a high priority for our family and despite this two family members are living with auto immune diseases, myself included.
We focus on what we can do, when we can do it, stay positive and so I make these videos for you on my best days.
