As schools emerge from the pandemic, how much funding will they have to address new and longstanding challenges? In this briefing, NCSL will provide the latest data on state education budgets and offer updates on legislative efforts across the country to improve education finance systems. NCSL will also provide updates on the implementation of the Elementary and Secondary School Education Relief (ESSER) program, including state and district spending and the challenges states are facing with Maintenance of Effort and Maintenance of Equity provisions in the American Rescue Plan.
