The COVID-19 variant discovered in India has been declared a concern by the UK Government.

Although experts say there is no evidence that the variant is resistant to vaccines, it is under investigation. India has seen record numbers of COVID cases over the last week, with over 400,000 cases in the last 24 hours alone.

Gibraltarian Joel Williams, who has been living in the country for the last four years, says that the effects of this variant appear much more concerning than anything seen in previous waves of the virus.

Speaking to GBC via Zoom from Kerala, India, Shelina Assomull asked Joel what the situation was like where he is.
